Manpaku Festival is the biggest food stall event in Japan. Manpaku is short for “Manpuku Hakurankai” which means “enjoy food to the fullest”. Celebrating its fifth anniversary this year, the Festival was held at the Showa Kinen Park in Tachikawa, western Tokyo, from May 14 to June 1. Over 360,000 people attended this 19 days long festival. Tickets cost ¥500 on weekdays and ¥800 on weekends. Re-entry is allowed any number of times in a day, so you can go out anytime and discover Tachikawa’s beautiful streets and bountiful nature.

The Festival features ten themed areas at which visitors can try a wide range of food products, beverages and sweets from Japanese regional delicacies and from around the world. We tried the Ikura-don (a bowl of salmon roe sold: ¥1,500) and Namie Yakisoba (fried noodles from Nami-Cho, Fukushima Prefecture). Visitors can also purchase all sort of souvenirs available in the Regional delicacies zones. Manpaku Festival is an excellent place for both adults and children.
