Odaiba is a popular shopping and sightseeing destination on a man made island. Initially built for defensive purposes in the 1850’s and later expanded as a seaport district, Odaiba has since developed as a major commercial, residential and leisure area and has become immensely popular with foreign tourists.

2

The centre of Odaiba is Aqua City Odaiba, a large scale shopping complex that includes a huge mall (consisting of approximately 80 stores), a large scale multiplex cinema with the latest audio and visual systems, and a gourmet zone. The gourmet zone is the largest in Tokyo and it offers a wide variety of restaurants including Japanese, Chinese, Italian and Western. In addition, the Aqua City Odaiba also provides a spectacular view of the Rainbow Bridge, the replica of the Statue of Liberty and the Tokyo skyline.

Other major attractions in Odaiba include:
3

・Odaiba Sea side Park where visitors can enjoy Tokyo’s waterfront and a close view of the Rainbow Bridge;

4

・Fuji TV headquarters, one of the most striking buildings in all of Japan where visitors can see the sets of popular TV programs;

5

・Palette Town, a shopping and commercial facility that includes Venusfort (a shopping mall resembling beautiful streets from 18th century Europe), Mega Web (Toyota’s self proclaimed car theme park), Tokyo Leisure Land (an indoor amusement park) and one of the world’s largest Ferris wheel.

6

Also located in Odaiba is Tokyo Joypolis, one of the largest indoor theme parks in Japan, that simply can’t be missed when visiting the Odaiba area. It offers approximately 20 different attractions including 3D attractions and the “rides” are unlike any other.

The Yurikamome is a nice way to get to Odaiba as you go over the Rainbow Bridge and the views are spectacular, or you can take a boat directly from Asakusa for a 50 minutes ride.
Odaiba is a great new place for visitors to check out and with the abundance of shopping centers, entertainment and gourmet areas, you can easily spend an entire day there.
