Shibuya is a special ward in Tokyo. It is known as one of the fashion centre of Japan, particularly for young people, and as a major night life area. It also surrounds Shibuya Station which is Tokyo’s busiest railway station.

The famous scramble crossing is located in front of the Shibuya Station, Hachikō exit, and it is the world’s busiest intersection. Each time the light turns green, hundreds, sometimes up to a thousand people come from all directions at once, but still manage to dodge each other and find their way through the crowd.

The intersection is heavily decorated by neon advertisements and giant video screens and has been compared to the Times Square intersection in New York City.
After dark, when all the neons are lit up, the view of the crossing is simply spectacular. The second floor of the giant Starbucks located across Shibuya Station offers a seating area, with a counter across its floor-to-ceiling windows, perfect for overlooking the intersection.

Shibuya Crossing is often featured in movies and television shows which take place in Tokyo, such as Lost in Translation,The Fast and the Furious , and Resident Evil , as well as on domestic and international news broadcasts.

The statue of Hachikō, a loyal dog, between the station and the intersection, is a common meeting place and is always very crowded. It is one of Tokyo’s most popular meeting points.
Story has it that Hachiko waited for his master every day in front of Shibuya Station, and continued to do so even after his death.
Be sure to check the movie made in Hachiko’s memory to get a better understanding.

So If you find yourself in Japan, it would be a shame to come to Tokyo and not to take a walk across the famous intersection.
