Yamaguchi prefecture is in the western Chugoku region of the main Japanese island Honshu. It is the westernmost prefecture in the island.
Yamaguchi Prefecture has a relatively long history, as it is located close to China. There are no big cities, but there are many attractive and interesting smaller cities, where traditional Japanese rural landscapes can still be seen on the outskirts.
The prefectural capital is the city of yamaguchi.

YAMAGUCHI CITY
Known as "Kyoto in the West” from ancient times, Yamaguchi is a beautiful city tucked down in the middle of the mountains.
One of the city’s main attraction is without a doubt the Rurikōji Temple. This temple's five-story pagoda is something of a city symbol. The pagoda is 31.2 meters high, and is designated as a national treasure.
Over the clean and beautiful Ichinosaka-gawa River many cherry blossoms can be seen in spring, and in summer you will find many fireflies glowing.
Sesshu's Garden at Joueiji Temple is a garden designed by the the famous Zen Buddhist monk and artist Sesshu (1420-1506). The serenity of the garden blends seamlessly into the stunning mountain scenery.

The Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media (YCAM) was established in November 2003 as a cultural-arts complex that accommodates a hall for stage performances, an exhibition space, a mini film theatre, and the Yamaguchi City Library. A platform for sharing computer- and IT-based media technology, YCAM hosts among others a variety of theatre and dance performances, art exhibitions, film screenings, sound-related events, workshops and lectures.
WHAT TO DO AND WHAT TO SEE
Yamaguchi’s principal sightseeing areas are:

Akiyoshidai: With a surface area of 130km2, Akiyoshidai is the largest karst plateau in Japan. Limestone rocks with white surfaces are exposed on the plateau, and look like flocking sheep on the grassy plains. This great spectacle of plenteous undulating land stretches out before visitors.

The Hagi’s Old Castle Town: is home to a well preserved samurai district. Several beautiful old samurai and merchant residences survive and are open to public.

Yuda Onsen: This simple alkaline hot spring is said to help ease rheumatism, neuralgia and dermatitis.

Yumoto Onsen: This traditional hot spring lies on the banks of the Otozuregawa River and its simple alkaline properties are said to help ease neuralgia.

Kintaikyo Bridge: Kintaikyo Bridge is a five-arched wooden bridge that stretches over the Nishikigawa River, located in Iwakuni. Metal coils and clamps were used in place of nails. It is considered Japan’s most elegant wooden bridge. Its beautiful shape reflected in the clear flowing water of the Nishikigawa River and the greenery of Shiroyama hill creates a stunning picture.

Shinkansen - there are five Shinkansen stations in this prefecture: Shin-Shimonoseki, Asa, Shin-Yamaguchi, Tokuyama and Shin-Iwakuni.
CLIMATE/ TEMPERATURE
Yamaguchi has a humid subtropical climate with hot summers and cool winters. Precipitation is significant throughout the year, but is much higher in summer than in winter.
